Troubleshooting Data Connection Issues

How to troubleshoot data connection issues

If you experience data connection issues or see an error when testing a connection, try the following steps to identify and resolve the problem:

  1. Check your connection information
Make sure the connection details—such as the URL, username, password, and any required settings—are entered correctly. Even a small typo can cause the connection to fail.

  2. Make sure you have the right access
Confirm that the account being used has permission to access the external system or data. If you’re not sure, you may need help from an administrator.

  3. Confirm network access
Ensure the external system can be reached from your environment. This may involve firewall rules, VPN access, or allowing certain IP addresses.

  4. Verify the connection type
Check that you selected the correct type of connection for the system you are connecting to, and that all required fields are filled in.

  5. Review login or authentication settings
For connections that use REST or OAuth, verify that items like the token URL, client ID, client secret, and scopes are correct and up to date.

  6. Check that the external system is available
Make sure the external system is online and not down for maintenance or experiencing an outage.

  7. Check the Forms Log for error messages.
