How to preview a form
Previewing a form lets you see how it will appear and function on a device. This is especially useful for testing fields that are dynamically populated, such as those connected to a data set. For example, you can confirm that specific sections—and any hidden fields within them—are behaving as intended.
To preview a form, complete the following:
- From the form designer's toolbar, click
(Preview) to open the Preview Form window.
- If your form includes hidden fields, you can enable the Show Hidden Fields option to display them.
- From the Preview Type list, select Phone, Tablet or Desktop to view how it the form will appear on each of these devices. Keep in mind that phones span two columns, tablets span three columns and a desktop spans four columns in Preview mode. Additionally, the Preview Form window allows you to type or select values to test that all fields perform as intended.
Note: If your form uses data sets or form actions, live data may be triggered and updated during preview. In these cases, we recommend using the Preview window in a test environment. -
In the following illustration the Make field is in a data set and is a hidden field but displays in the Preview Form window because the Show Hidden Fields toggle is on.
-
To preview the required fields on the form, click the asterisk button.
-
If the form contains headers, a
(Table of Contents) icon appears in the upper-right corner in the preview. The Table of Contents lists each header on the form. Headers in the Table of Contents are used to "jump" to another section of a form as well as a means of collapsing areas of the form.
- Click OK to close the Preview Form window.
