September 2024 NewsPro

🐝 Bzzzzzzz! 🐝

It’s National Honey Month here in the United States, and we are all a-buzz! September is typically the end of the beekeeping season, so beekeepers are busy harvesting honey. Kim Melton, Customer Experience Manager at OmniByte, and her husband began beekeeping a few years ago. She is bragging that this is their best harvest to date, so she and her husband spend their weekends bottling and infusing honey, making beeswax candles and swarming to area farmers’ markets to sell their goods. This is a lot to manage. To ensure Kim doesn’t bumble around with beekeeping, she uses FormsPro to keep her bees-ness on track.

⚠️But first, an allergy alert: ⚠️

We’re really having fun with this bee/honey thing we started, and as much as we love it, we realize some may be allergic to too many puns in one newsletter.

Symptoms such as groaning 😖, eye rolling 🙄 and the impulse to prematurely close this email ❌ may indicate an aversion. ☠️

We’ve included a straight version of our articles at the end of this newsletter to prevent severe reactions.  🤕

(Except we didn't add this to the archived version. You'll have to endure the puns here!!)

FEATURE FEATURE

We're not Pollen Your Leg...New Features are Coming!

OmniByte worker bees are finalizing features for the upcoming 2410.4 release tentatively scheduled for October 31st.  We’re anticipating you’ll celebrate with hive fives when you see our new features. The October edition of NewsPro will cover all the new features, but we’ll sting you with a few in this edition of NewsPro.

Segmented Buttons

A highly anticipated new feature is segmented buttons. They are like radio buttons; in that you have multiple choices. However, unlike a radio button, you can select more than one option, and segmented buttons can have colors. Think of the bee-autiful forms you can make! Segmented buttons are available in advanced and basic forms, and in both dynamic and static tables. In addition, any applied colors to a segmented button print automatically on reports, so you don’t have to do it manually in the Report Writer.

segment buttons

Kim uses segmented buttons on her Farmer’s Market form to track products sold. In this example, when she marks Raw Honey a table opens and lets her mark the type of honey, size and quantity she sold.

Toggles

Toggles can be used when a single on/off, or true/false type of response is needed. Kim’s Farmers’ Market form has a handy dandy toggle to alert her when they need to order more supplies. If they run out of something at a farmer’s market, the toggle is turned on and in this example a section is enabled where they can track product order information.

toggle

Kim turns the toggle on when she knows she needs to order more supplies. Once turned on, a section is enabled where she can enter specifics about what she needs to order.

💡Toggle Tip: We added toggles to handle situations where a single checkbox was needed. Think about using them anywhere you would want just one checkbox – like lists of Yes/No questions or a single true/false answer.

Meet One of OmniByte’s Busy Bees

Many of you already know Marcie Gorder, OmniByte’s Controller, but we thought we’d share some fun facts to re-acquaint yourself with her.

Tell us about some of your hobbies.

I love relaxing at the lake with our family, attending NDSU football games and pre-game tailgating, and visiting local breweries and hole-in-the-wall restaurants during our travels.

Here's a photo of Marcie (far left) and her husband with some of their children and grandchildren:

What's your favorite movie?

Too many favorites to only pick one, but a great movie I recently rewatched was Field of Dreams. RIP James Earl Jones. 😢

Your favorite food?

Supreme Pizza

Fun facts about yourself?

  1. I can say a dinner prayer in Swedish.
  2. My dad taught me to milk a cow by hand.
  3. At one point I had 26 outdoor cats on the small farm I grew up on. Mice didn’t stand a chance!
  4. I ran my first, and likely my last, half marathon when I was 45.
  5. I am an avid reader and watcher of all things sci fi.

What's your favorite way to use honey?

I add honey to my tea when I'm not feeling well and I also make a cough and cold syrup with honey and raw red onion. It tastes awful but works like a charm!

INFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Things we thought you'd never ask! 😜

Microsoft is amending their MFA requirements, what does this mean for FormsPro?

Starting in 2024, Microsoft will start requiring multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all user accounts. This may not seem like a big change for some, MFA has been around for a while and most services outside of the workplace require a second factor for authentication.

IT professionals at large organizations manage many credentials. A change as significant as this can vastly affect how they manage users. It’s best practice to review accounts regularly and to configure end users with MFA by default. Keeping a record of all service accounts is also important. These accounts tend to be used for integrations and may be shared with employees to connect to certain environments. The article here is a good starting point to review accounts in your Microsoft environments.

Knowing which credentials are set up in FormsPro for data integrations will be important. You will need to migrate any service accounts to workload identities to minimize interruptions to your integrations. You’ll want to review all the data connections, data sets, and users in your FormsPro instance.

  • You can review users who have access to your FormsPro instance by exporting the report from the Users page.
  • After reviewing the users, you should review the connections you have configured in FormsPro. Depending on the connection type, there will be service accounts or users configured for access.
  • Data sets will be configured to use connections. You should review each form to make sure the data sets are configured correctly.

If you have any questions about how to review these items in FormsPro you can reference the documentation below or reach out to us.

Kim, what happens to bees in the winter? Won’t they freeze?

They could, so our bees take a little trip to winter in California. But they do not hibernate, they have work to do! California produces about 80% of the world’s almonds. Millions of beehives (including our hives) are trucked in from out of the state to pollinate the state’s almond trees.

Below is a picture of Brian, Kim's husband, at a recent farmers' market.
